I Buried the Words "I Can't"
| Howdy! What's going on? Deb Boline here. So you just watched the video up there at the top, and now you're wondering what this chick is on! Why on earth did I decide to bury the words, "I Can't"? I can tell you a couple of things for sure...maybe more. For all the hype and hoopla, this industry is not about money. It never has been. It’s about being in control of your life...from home to the office to your kids’ education. And every single place in between. It’s not about getting out of your job. It’s about making a living you LOVE for yourself and your family. Just 2½ short years ago, in the spring of 2006, I was on the verge of being fired because my attitude was bad...quite frankly, it sucked. I hated my boss almost as much as he hated me. Every day was a struggle to get out of bed. I was at my personal all-time low and even taking antidepressants. I had no idea how (and some days IF) I was going to make it to tomorrow. Fast forward to June 2008. That was when I first heard about Joe Schroeder. I started studying Joe and his students from the shadows. Others, like me, join because they can’t get enough of the hope instilled by and the lessons learned each and every day from studying books, emails, CDs, phone conferences, videos and the like. What have I learned in the last six months? More than I ever imagine possible. And words don’t explain but about 5% of it all. Yet the question remains: Why did I decide to bury the words “I Can’t”? I bought tombstone at Wal-Mart and scribed it. Then, on October 31 – yup Halloween – I dug a grave in my front yard, buried the list, and executed a short graveside service. To me, the words would and could not be dead until I took all of those steps. Oh, and I put it on video. I’m not slick, so I used my handy dandy and totally outdated 8mm digital from the late 90’s. You don't have to be tech-savvy and have the latest and greatest tools/toys to succeed around this place. Yes, I cried afterward. But not tears of sadness. They were tears of joy and of a new-found faith in myself. I now know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I CAN conquer any situation and accomplish any goal that comes into my life. Even the ones that everybody thinks I’m crazy for even attempting. The proof is in the pudding. Since burying my list of “I Can’ts”, I’ve taken heart in the phrase “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” And boy have I got it going:
So don’t tell me that you can’t take control of your life and do whatever it is that your heart tells you that you need to be doing. It’s not that you CAN’T do it. It’s that you WON’T do it. You’re not ready. I cry BULL HOCKEY to all of it! You don’t have to get it RIGHT. You just have to get it STARTED. My challenge to you is to write your own list of things holding you back and actually bury it. It’s a powerful moment! It’s not about money. It never has been. It’s about being in control of your life... from home to the office to your kids’ education. And every single place in between. It’s not about getting out of your job.
